Baptism
Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away — all who have been called by the Lord our God.”
Acts 28:38-39
PUblic Declaration of faith
Baptism is a meaningful next step in the journey of following Jesus. It is a personal response of faith and an outward expression of the new life we have found in Him.
At Withcott Church of Christ, we practise believer’s baptism by full immersion, as we see throughout the New Testament. Baptism follows a person’s decision to place their trust in Jesus and reflects a desire to follow Him wholeheartedly.
We believe baptism is important because:
-
Jesus modelled it for us and set the example — Matthew 3:13–17
-
Jesus encouraged His followers to be baptised — Matthew 28:19–20
-
It symbolises leaving behind the old life and beginning a new life in Christ — Romans 6:1–14
-
It is a joyful and public declaration of faith in Jesus
If you are considering baptism, or would simply like to learn more about what it means, we would love to walk alongside you, answer your questions, and support you on your faith journey. Please feel free to speak with us.
